Spring marks the start of outdoor event season, including the spring carnival! Navigating spring carnival and racing attire can be tricky, but once you’ve got the dress code down – you’ll be set for years to come. 

Derby Day 

The first ‘need to know’ of fashion on the field is the Derby Day dress code. Derby Day is the first celebration for the spring racing carnival and is themed Black and White. So, opt for a simple monochromatic look that can be elevated with elegant accessories to suit the theme. Headpieces and hair accessories are encouraged!  

Fashion on the field  

While Derby Day is all about black and white, both Cup Day and Oaks Day are all about embracing colour and femininity. Styling statement pieces, like a contrasting coloured fascinator and adorning necklace is a great way to elevate your fashion on the field. 

While bold colours are encouraged, remember to keep things modest to tie into tradition – so stray away from midriff-baring cut outs! Our go to look for race day is a vibrant midi dress or pant suit, a low bun and an adorning fascinator to match.  

Cocktail Party 

Cocktail parties are, dare we say – the chicest of them all (and our personal fave). But what does the theme ‘cocktail’ actually mean?  

Think of cocktail as the mid-tier of formal attire with a lot of personality. Cocktail events call for more midi and mini hemlines, rather than your traditional floor length formal wear. These types of events are also ideal for expressing your own unique sense of style and allow you to be more playful with colour and accent pieces. Engagement Party 

Engagement parties are the first hooray for a newly engaged couple and mark the start of wedding celebrations to come. As a party guest, this is the perfect time to wear your bold, colourful and fun pieces that aren’t quite wedding appropriate.
